What are your thoughts on freedom of speech and drawing the prophet? : islam

I ask this question as a non-Muslim from America. I know in your religion it’s haram to draw your prophet, but I wonder how you reconcile that belief with the idea that people should have the ability to express their beliefs freely and say what they want, as long as it doesn’t directly cause or incite violence. Do you think freedom of speech should allow people to draw realistic or cartoon pictures of Muhammad, especially ones that are negative or condemning? Also, I’m not here to argue, I have no problems with Islam at all. I’ve even taken an introductory class at my university about Islam, which prompts me to ask this question.
