Joint press release from the public prosecutor and police headquarters in Karlsruhe:
In connection with the attempted homicide at Waghäusel station last Tuesday, the Criminal Investigation Commissioner Bruchsal was able to identify two suspects and temporarily arrested them on Wednesday in a shared accommodation for asylum seekers. At the request of the Karlsruhe public prosecutor’s office, they were brought before the judge on Thursday, who ordered custody against both suspects – a brother and sister from Syria aged 22 and 25.
The 25-year-old is said to have physically attacked the 54-year-old victim for no apparent reason and dragged him onto the track bed and subsequently prevented him from trying to leave the track bed. At the same time, the 22-year-old is said to have threatened people coming to the victim’s aid and thus facilitated the crime.
The investigators came on the trail of the suspects on the basis of witness statements in connection with a police check as part of the investigative measures initiated. In the course of further investigations, the investigative authorities were able to further substantiate the suspicion.
The 54-year-old victim is now on the mend and is ready to be heard. The man claimed to have been attacked suddenly for no apparent reason.
